- Holiday with dog
Our sunny mountain world offers unforgettable holiday moments not only for you, but also for your four-legged friend. Together you can hike, take countless excursions, and discover cozy mountain huts.
- Leash requirement – where does it apply?
In our villages, on hiking trails, and in the forest, dogs are generally required to be kept on a leash. Muzzles are also required on public transport and cable cars.
- No dogs allowed!
Please note: The walking path along the Salzach between the dog training area in Niedernsill and the Hummersdorfer Bridge is prohibited for dogs. Please use the Tauern cycle path here.
- Meeting pasture animals – be careful!
During the summer months, meadows and many alpine pastures are grazed. Mother cows, in particular, instinctively protect their calves. Therefore, avoid contact. Always keep dogs on a leash. If a cow reacts aggressively, release the dog immediately. This way, you protect yourself, your dog—and the animals.
- Are there off-leash areas?
In Hummersdorf/Piesendorf Find a fenced-in dog park where your dog can run around off-leash. Want to see the location on Maps? Search for: Hundewiese Hummersdorf. From the Tauernhütte and Haus Alpenliebe: 20 minutes walk.
Dog area directly at the southern end of the Klammsee in Kaprun.
Your four-legged friend can run around freely in the dog area on the south side of the Klammsee lake. The leash and muzzle requirement in the municipality of Kaprun doesn't apply here, so there's plenty of room to run around. The dog park is open all day.
Fenced dog meadow at Lake Zell.
Your four-legged friend can run around freely in the dog park at the Erlberg resort. The leash and muzzle requirement in Zell am See doesn't apply here – so there's plenty of room to run around. The dog park is open all day.
- Bathing with dog
Especially on midsummer days, the cool waters of Zell am See-Kaprun beckon: how convenient that Lake Zell is right under your nose. Dogs also love to cool off in the hot temperatures and enjoy a dip in the lake.
There's no designated dog beach in the region, but as long as your dog doesn't have to wear a leash or muzzle, nothing will stop them from splashing around in the water. Exceptions to this are lidos and official swimming areas: unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in these areas. Another swimming option is the Klammsee lake in Kaprun.
Dogs are allowed to swim here as long as they adhere to local leash and muzzle regulations. By the way, just like for owners, dogs on bathing days should also be aware that cooling down slowly is easier on their circulation!
In Piesendorf, dogs can swim in the Salzach or in the Piesendorf infinity pool.
- Is there a dog boarding facility?
Yes! In Piesendorf you will find the Trumlinghof, a lovingly managed dog boarding facility with flexible care options.
- Why is cleaning up dog poop so important?
Dog poop contains bacteria that can render our farmers' hay unusable—and, in the worst-case scenario, even make cows sick. Therefore, please use dog poop bags and dispose of them in the appropriate bins—for the sake of the environment and for harmonious cooperation with nature.
- What activities are possible with a dog?
Dogs are very welcome at many attractions in our region.
Please clean up dog poop in the garden at Haus Walchen, Haus Alpenliebe and the Tauernhütte.
